Entry # 6

Are there are any current situations in the world that relate to the novel? What are they, and how do they relate? Does the novel shed any light on how current situations could be resolved or “fixed”?
There were some situations in the world that relate to this novel. One of the most similar situations is happening in North Korea. In North Korea there is a president called Kim Jung Ill, he is a dictator like the pigs. Once he promised freedom and equality but he didn’t accept his promise. In order to fix the problems people needed to educate. Animal farm does reveal that education is really important. Democracy is important (everyone has a voice and no control isn’t given to one or a few people).

Please choose one passage from the novel that is significant to you why is this passage meaningful? Please type it into one of your entries and comment on what you think about the passage
“Is it not crystal clear, then, comrades, that all the evils of this life of ours spring from the tyranny of human beings”?

It’s ironic that the pigs said all the evils of this life of ours spring from the tyranny of human beings, because the pigs became human beings and they did what human did to the animals.

What is the mood of this novel? Do you find this novel saddens you in any way? Why?

The mood of this novel changes from being bright to being sad. After I finished this novel I felt sorry for the animals that were betrayed by their own comrades. It made me sad when Boxer died. Boxer was the hardest worker on the farm. After Boxer got hurt he was sent to the horse slaughter and that wasn’t fair or right. In Animal Farm every animal was promised to be released but no animals were released. When the Pigs walked on two legs, I felt sad that the animals just wasted their time and wasted their bodies for cruel dictators.

What is the climax of this novel? What happens? How do the events or this novel make you feel?

I think the climax of this novel was when the Pigs walked on their hind legs. It had the most tension in the story, because it was when the Pigs became like really human beings. It was very disturbing to me. When the Pigs walked on their hind legs I thought about Kim Jung Ill and other smart dictators and how they control their people without care for them.

Who are the main characters in the novel? Do you like them? Why or why not? What is special about them? What do they reveal about the universal human experience?

The main characters in this novel were Benjamin, Boxer, Old major, Napoleon, Squealer, Snowball, Mr. Jones, Clover, Mollie and the Dogs. I like all the characters except the Pigs. Most of the other animals were good workers and they always did what the Pigs ordered them to do. They were happy that they were free from Mr. Jones
However, they were promised to be released from working when they got old, but the Pigs didn’t keep their word. The worst example of this was when Boxer, the hardest worker on the farm, got hurt from working and the Pigs sent him to the horse slaughterer, yet lied by telling the other animals that he went to a hospital and that he was fine
I was amazed that the animals obeyed the pig so easily. They never realized that pigs were becoming like human beings, except Benjamin. They believed the Pigs without any suspect. But, the Pigs betrayed the animals. In my opinion, the animals were like people who do labors for higher rank people. The Pigs were the higher rank people.
